As adults, staying at home was probably one of the hardest things we had to do during the pandemic. A lot of us probably felt like our mental health was at stake as we lost all sense of normalcy and we fought hard to stay sane. Now imagine being a child, missing your friends and not being able to hang out with the people who you're so used to seeing everyday as you are forced to stare at a computer screen to “learn” from school?
Kids' mental health matters too, so now that things are normalizing and we can all go out and about to travel again, let’s make it an experience your kids will enjoy and never forget. And if you’re planning to travel to the Bahamas, here are the best kid friendly places to swim with dolphins!
Dolphin Cay is known to be one of the largest and most sophisticated marine-mammal habitats in the world. Here, you can swim, learn, and play with the dolphins as well as sea lions. There are also a lot of activities your kids can enjoy like paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling, working with fishes and sea turtles for a day as a junior trainer, and joining tours or educational sessions that will teach you about ocean conservation, Coral reefs, Sea lions, and so much more!
Balmoral Island is a private beach where you can swim in the ocean or waterfront swimming pools, relax in the provided beach chairs, and soak in the scenery of the Bahamas. You can interact with dolphins and swimming pigs and just enjoy a day in azure blue water and soft white sands. There are also many beautiful spots to capture and explore in the island so if your kids are looking for a bit of an adventure, this is the perfect place to be.
Dolphin Encounters started as a rescue facility in 1989. It is a natural seawater dolphin facility that houses Atlantic bottlenose dolphins and California sea lions. If you;re a fan of the movie “Splash” and you got your kids hooked on this movie too, you’ll be pleased to know that the beach scenes in this movie were taped on Blue Lagoon Island and this facility. You can spend your day swimming in the calm lagoon, relax on the beach, or get active as you and your kids enjoy water sports. You can also have a grilled lunch and fresh tropical drinks as you lounge around or maybe sleep in a hammock under the trees.
As for the kids, if they came for the dolphins, they can get a unique, playful, educational interaction with dolphins in their natural ocean lagoon and if they’re really into marine mammals, they can also interact with California Sea Lions.
Before anything else, make sure to check the current protocols for when you plan to visit as a lot of them have made a number of changes to how they operate and enhanced sanitization protocols to help keep you and your family safe. We hope these places will help bring back the joy in your little ones, and we hope that you make a lot of beautiful memories while you’re there.
